Important Date:  March 5 - Missionaries Day is Tahiti’s own special public holiday, when the churches celebrate the arrival of the London Missionary Society (LMS) who landed on the beach at Point Venus on March 5, 1797. White dresses and hats are the traditional costume for Tahitians when they gather at their churches throughout all the islands for special programs consisting of singing of himenes, praying and reenactment ceremonies.
