YWAM New Orleans

This is an excerpt from the story on YWAM.org

YWAM New Orleans has a significant presence in the city of New Orleans. But according to Debbie Lascelles of YWAM Tyler’s MercyWorks, all eleven of YWAM New Orleans’ buildings are submerged, including their drug rehab facility and crisis pregnancy center. "The staff doesn’t know if the buildings are still standing, but from the aerial photographs they’ve seen, they’re pretty sure that all their possessions are gone." Thankfully, all YWAM personnel safely evacuated the city before the storm hit and will be housed at the YWAM Tyler base.

YWAM Tyler MercyWorks is launching a double relief effort to help both YWAM New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina victims. "We’re taking food, baby items and water to Gulfport, Mississippi on Sunday," says Debbie. "We’ll also be doing some further assessment at that time. We’ve been busy trying to mobilize Tyler to help and we’ve been renting semi trucks to take relief supplies." Knowing that New Orleans will be inaccessible for weeks to come—experts say it could take between three and four months to remove the water from the city—MercyWorks is focusing on other hurricane-ravaged areas. "New Orleans will be long term," says Debbie.

MercyWorks has set up two relief funds, one for hurricane victims and the other for YWAM New Orleans. You may send checks to:

YWAM Tyler
P.O. Box 3000
Garden Valley, TX 75771-3000 USA

Please designate your check to either "YWAM New Orleans" or "Hurricane Relief."
