Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India

November 2005

Repairing Broken Houses

Our project of repairing houses at Bamboo Flats is almost over. Only very few houses are left out to finish the work. Our team continues to visit those places to evaluate our work and to counsel the people and pray for them. One plus point from this area is that we have made a good friendship with the people from this village.  Most of them are very open to us.
NEI and Andaman Islands
While we conducted a prayer meeting, we happened to meet a family with 20-year-old, disabled son named Manish. We prayed for them and for Manish. During the earthquake on 26th Dec, 2004 Manish could not run as others were fleeing their houses. Due to this he got some injuries in his body. Our team continuously visit this boy weekly and share the Gospel to his parents. We also pray for him. Please join us in prayer that God will heal him soon.

Lightening the Darkness

It was one of the nights that we spent in Hut Bay Island. We were really tired due to the extreme heat. In these Islands we can’t predict when it will rain and when there will be hot sun. Unfortunately that night there was a power cut and the whole day was a horrible experience for us. There was no power supply for the entire night. The same night our thoughts went to the children on this particular Island. When we enquired we found there almost 70 students who are studying in 12th grade. This grade is a turning point in their lives. They have to study hard to pass the examination. The next morning we talked with some teachers from the higher secondary school and an idea came to our mind to help the children with one emergency lamp each. These lamps will give light when there are power cuts. We selected 70 students from the 12th grade and gave them each an emergency lamp for their studies. It was an unforgettable time when the teachers and students came under the roof of a church in Hut Bay to receive this gift. We spoke on “Success” and about the Love of Jesus. Many students had a good response in that they came to the church the next Sunday for worship. Praise God!

A Church in Hut Bay

”Shiloh” is the name of a church in Hut Bay Island. Before the tsunami the strength of the church was nearly 150 members. The church is located very close to the seashore in the vicinity of some shops and houses. During the tsunami the waves swept away the church totally. It was very hard for the believers and the pastor to identify where the church was previously. It was such complete devastation.

Our team visited this church after the tsunami. The pastor was conducting the Sunday worship with 50 people in one of the believer's houses. After the disaster many people from this Island moved to Port Blair and many moved to mainland India. So the strength of the church has been reduced now to 50.  We decided to help the people to build a temporary church by tin roofing sheets and bamboo. Now the reconstruction work has been finished and the pastor Vijay is excited. We are expecting more people to attend the Sunday worship.
