Suffragettes

 
Give me ONE good reason...


About 100 years ago, women known as suffragettes were marching and in other ways campaigning for their rights. At one large rally in London, a distinguished gentleman who was obviously on their side was invited to be the guest speaker.


One of the ladies gave a rousing introduction of the speaker, and turning to him said, "Mr. Appleton-Jones, can you give one good reason that men and women are different”"

 
To which, Mr. Appleton-Jones, in impeccably precise and well-modulated King's English (a king sat upon the throne of England in those days), came back with this classic riposte: "Madam, I cannot conceive."
