MULTAN, MIAN CHANNU, PAKISTAN (ANS) -- A local priest whose church was attacked by some intruders on Thursday night, March 30, has appealed to the police to provide more security to the Christian residents of the area.
A group of unidentified people allegedly broke into a church in Mian Channu, a town about 100 kilometers (60 miles) east of Multan. The attackers managed to escape after breaking and torching the furniture of the church.
Nathaniel Barkat, a priest at the church, reportedly said they had asked for police protection because they were still shaken by the attack.
“We were sleeping in our room near the church at the time. We don’t know who did it,” the Associated Press (AP) quoted Nathaniel as saying.
The culprits are still at large. “So far, we have made no arrests, but officers are seriously investigating this incident, and we will soon find those who did this shameful act,” the local police chief, Sajjad Khan, who was quoted by the AP.
