MISSIONARY MARTYR, JIM ELLIOT,
FEATURED IN THE FIRST EPISODE OF THE TORCHLIGHTERS,
A NEW CHILDREN’S VIDEO ADVENTURE SERIES

By Dan Wooding

WORCESTER, PA (ANS) -- Christian History Institute in association with International Films (United Kingdom) and The Voice of the Martyrs, (Bartlesville, OK) announce the release of their new children’s adventure series, “The Torchlighters.”

This new series has been developed to expose children to the inspirational lives of heroic men and women from Christian history. With stunning, action packed animation; every episode of The Torchlighters tells the story of Christian Heroes who have risked their very lives to bring the message of Jesus Christ to an antagonistic world.

“Through this series,” says Ken Curtis, President of CHI, “children will be introduced to some of the greatest lives ever lived – people who made a difference in the world; lives that found their meaning and motivation in Christ. Our goal is to offer young people true stories that will help shape the vision for their own lives.”

The first episode of The Torchlighters will be available in March 2005 and covers the inspirational life of missionary martyr, Jim Elliot. In this Torchlighter premier episode, children can re-live Jim Elliot’s adventure of faith from his college years through a pioneering work in the steamy jungles of Ecuador – right through to his cruel martyrdom at the hands of the Auca Indians.

In Jim’s own words, “he is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep, in order to gain what he cannot lose,” and Jim Elliot gave up the comforts of a life in America because he wondered “why some should hear twice, when others have not heard [the Gospel] once.”

Nothing could have prepared Jim and his courageous friends for the dangers they were to face in the jungles of Ecuador. Slowly and patiently the five missionaries cultivated the friendship of a group of tribal Indians – a tribe that had already slaughtered the only white men known to have come into contact with them. They were willing to risk their lives for the chance of telling a wild, unknown people for the first time, that Jesus loves them.

The end came suddenly. Thinking they had finally succeeded in their quest, the five missionaries went down under a shower of native spears. As the blood of the martyrs seeped into the running waters of the Curaray River, the torch passed on to the unbelievably courageous widows of the murdered men.

Jim’s wife and daughter along with some of the other widows later returned to finish the task their husbands had begun. Through their courage, love and forgiveness, they lived to see the very men who had murdered their beloved men folk, turn to Christ and live to serve the Almighty God.

Jim Elliot is a worthy role model for the children of today, and one we are proud to present as a Torchlighter for Jesus.

CHI President Ken Curtis states, “In a society where the secular pressures fervently resist acknowledgement of Christ, it is our hope that through these stories, young people will come to know Jesus as friend, guide, Savior and Lord. We don’t know of any better gift we could give to children, and our hope is to continue this series for many years to come.”

Vision Video Inc., PA, will distribute the series.

The second episode of The Torchlighters, based on the life of William Tyndale, is now in production and will be available later in 2005.

The Jim Elliot Story in The Torchlighter series can be purchased through Vision Video on DVD for $17.99; VHS $14.99. For more information on this series or for a review copy, contact Karen Rutt at 800-523-0226, extension 304 or reach her by email at Karen@visionvideo.com.
