MOHAMMED SAVES U.S. CHRISTIAN SOLDIER,
WHO RETURNS TO PALESTINE!
An Iraqi named Mohammed delivers a U.S. Christian soldier from harm’s way, ensuring her safe return to Palestine, W.V. Whew! That ranks right in there with God sending a boy named David to slay a giant named Goliath!

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA USA  (ANS) -- Lost on a dark road in unfamiliar country near Nasiriyah, Iraq, the 507th Maintenance Company was ambushed and overrun after its fateful wrong turn.

Pfc. Jessica Lynch’s story is already well known. The Washington Post reported that the 19-year-old Army supply clerk shot several Iraqi soldiers during an ambush that resulted in her capture. She kept firing until finally running out of ammunition. "She was fighting to the death," the Post quoted an official as saying. "She did not want to be taken alive."

We now know that most of the few survivors were brutalized, tortured and executed at point-blank range. In further violation of the Geneva Convention, some were paraded in front of the world’s press in a sick repeat performance of a moral affront to all civilized peoples. Only an evil, despotic regime such as Saddam’s could fail to comprehend this.

Miraculously, Jessica was spared execution, though her severe torture resulted in crushed vertebrae, two broken legs and a broken arm, foot and ankle. Perhaps we’re even being spared the most egregious details of Jessica’s torture, confirming the fears of many who criticize women in combat.

In light of these emerging details and the anti-war movement’s unrepentant disdain for the facts, I have a recommendation: All arrested anti-war protesters ought to be sentenced to reviewing Iraqi mistreatment of Coalition POWs, as well as the torturous mistreatment of Iraqi dissidents and other enemies of Saddam.

There is precedence for this.

As Germany fell at the end of WW2, Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Eisenhower (Ike) ordered residents of the communities surrounding Nazi death camps to tour Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau, Dachau, Chelmno, Sobibor, Belzek and Majdanek.

The expressions ranged from shock-filled, mouth agape, blank stares to uncontrollable weeping. Some were remorseful, some were not, but all complied. Germans do follow orders, you know.

The surprising hero who saved a surprising hero is a 32-year-old Iraqi lawyer named Mohammed. He was born in Nasiriyah … affirmatively answering the age-old question ‘Can anything good come from Nasiriyah?’ Well, that’s close, anyway.

He is married to a nurse who worked at the hospital Jessica was rescued from. They have a 6-year-old daughter, and all are safely beginning a new life in American hands.

Jessica’s family prayed with fervency that God would miraculously return her into their loving arms, though in their strength of faith, they always believed she never really left His loving arms.

I am one Christian who says this time God saw fit to send Mohammed to rescue an infidel. It is interesting: An Iraqi named Mohammed delivers a U.S. Christian soldier from harm’s way, ensuring her safe return to Palestine, W.V. Whew! Let’s talk. That ranks right in there with God sending a 12-year-old named David to slay a giant named Goliath!

Palestine did produce a genuine hero in Jessica Lynch. She grew up in a little white house set among deciduous trees, with an old pickup truck out front. Jessica’s family is certainly not related to the Lynches of Merrill Lynch fame.

The story is big. When answering the incessant and shallow "How does this make you feel?" questions from reporters, her brother and father used traditional and ingratiating Southern colloquialisms: Yes sir, yes ma’am, no sir, no ma’am.

God and country permeate the entire culture of the South as well. Nearly all families are ‘religious’ or posses religious roots. The Bible Belt has produced some of the finest citizen soldiers throughout all of American history, and the rest of us are the beneficiary of that service.

The South has indeed risen again, but this time it didn’t wait for a rebellion on the other side of the Mason-Dixon Line. It patriotically rose inside America, inside Jessica Lynch, inside her dad and brother and other family members ... and this genuine compliment is coming from a lifelong Yank!

These most loyal of our citizenry are neither slick, nor sophisticated, nor multicultural, nor diverse, nor politically correct, nor enlightened, nor overly educated, nor particularly fluid in speech, nor coifed. But they are the real thing … GENUINE AMERICAN PATRIOTS!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today … I am proud to be an American.

Today ... I pray that Jessica’s physical and emotional wounds heal quickly.

Today ... I pray that God will bless our newest friend named Mohammed, the lawyer from Nasiriyah.
